Sunday Best

Another nice day, another three-quarter length sleeve coat!

Last tuesday's mild weather made it the ideal day for me to showcase my latest coat obsession. I had been coveting this coat ever since I saw it in Kate Spade's fall look book, but i just couldn't justify the hefty price tag for a piece that seemed sort of impractical. For months I had been stalking it online waiting for the day that the price dropped. Finally, the cost seemed somewhat reasonable, but to my horror they were out of my size! After many phone calls, I got a store in Manhattan to ship it to me. The story should end there, but anyone who knows me knows it's never that simple. Three days later, the price dropped again so I ordered it online (my size was miraculously back in stock) and planned to return the other one to the retail store here in Washington, DC. Because of Kate Spade's strict return policy on sale items, I had to return the original one before I received the second one in the mail. I had reservations about this, but I really had no choice in the matter. As I opened the new package, my feelings of despair were confirmed, they had sent me the wrong size. I immediately went online and saw that my size was out of stock once again and the DC store had already sold the return I had made earlier that week. After almost an hour of back and forth with the online manager, I was told that one XS had somehow appeared back in stock. I nervously waited for the coat to arrive and my heart sank when I saw that the hanger was labeled a large, but to my surprise the coat itself was the correct size! Happiness!

This story has proven to be the rule and not the exception when it comes to my fashion exploits. Maybe I should take my father's advice and stop lusting after things to the point of obsession, but hey, that's half the fun! And this time, I can truly say that it was worth it.

Reminds me of the time I drove all the way to Crystal City (as a teenager, that was quite the drive), got totally lost and ended up in Anacostia...but thought it was totally worth it for a pair of Steve Madden sneakers;-)

That jacket is really cute on you! I like the 60's feel to it. Absolutely hate mustard as a color, though. Can I bring a vote to banish it?

I love those tights with the coat. How about if i promise to never wear or eat mustard in your presence, deal?

Omg, you sound like me when I obsess over clothes. Nice to know I am not the only one who will go to great lengths to get a great clothing item.

Btw, I first saw that coat on Glee and FELL IN LOVE! But I too couldn't justify the price for it. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you end up getting the coat for??

Hi there. It's great to know there are some equally fashion obsessed people out there in the world. I swear I have a million other stories just like this one!

I ended up getting the coat for $315. A definite improvement over the regular price. Thanks for reading!

Wow, that's not that bad of a price for a $700 coat! And I love the funnel neck on that coat. NICE!

I loooooooove Kate Spade but she is totally out of my price range. Do you shop her clothes alot?? Does she have a lot of sales??

She has this GORGEOUS coat on sale for $400, but it's still outta my price range. Here's the link:

I absolutely ADORE her outerwear. Where else do you shop?? Especially for outerwear. I love jcrew coats too.

Sorry for all the ?'s. Thanks for answering so quickly :)

@Unknown
That is a great coat. I love Kate Spade clothing as well, but agree that it's definitely very pricey. Luckily, they do some decent warehouse sales several times a year. If you sign up for their email alerts, you will get notification emails.

My other go to places for coats are j.crew, anthropologie, urban outfitters, tulle and modcloth (although their sizing is often very inconsistent). You should also check out Boden. If you happen to fit in their sizes, they have some great cute and unique coats.

Hope this helps! If you have any other comments or questions, let me know.

Hai! Thanks for your help! I was actually able to get the coat for a $280 with my student discount! :D I mainly wanted to ask you if you knew much about KS outerwear sizing?? I bought the coat in a size 2, and I typically run a size 4 in j crew. What size do you typically run in KS? Are her coats larger or true to size?? Thanks for your help!

That's a great price! I think Kate Spade runs common in size to most major retailers these days. I wear a 00 or XXS in J.Crew and Banana Republic (and most other places) and wear the same in Kate Spade. They didn't make the stripe coat in XXS, but the XS fit me fine. So I would say they probably will fit pretty similar to J.Crew.

Hope this helps and let me know how you like the coat once you get it.
